Nursery Refurbishment & Extension

Education

This transformative project involved the conversion of an existing family resource centre into a vibrant and inclusive nursery. Led by Moderm, the refurbishment included a thoughtful extension to accommodate an indoor play area, creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for early childhood development.

Design Approach

We spearheaded the design and execution, from concept development and spatial planning to construction documentation and delivery. We applied research in color psychology and environmental design to create zones that support emotional, cognitive, and social development.

Design Features

Indoor Play Extension

A bright, open space with curtain walls that bring in natural light and offer views of the surrounding landscape—allowing children to feel connected to nature while remaining safe indoors.

Color Psychology in Learning Spaces

Carefully selected hues to define "high" and "low" activity zones, using color to evoke calm, focus, excitement, or creativity depending on the area's function.

Natural Integration

The design maximises natural light and views, enhancing wellbeing and creating a sense of openness and freedom within a secure setting.

Inclusive & Accessible Layout

Spaces are designed to be inclusive for children of all abilities, with intuitive circulation and safe, engaging materials.
